The wind was blowing a hooley, but the rain kept away as we welcomed representatives from Mansfield District Council to celebrate the start of works at Bellamy Road. We were also joined by executive Mayor Andy Abrahams, council CEO Adam Hill and Cllr Anne Callaghan to mark the occasion.
The new four, three and two-bedroom homes will be constructed in phases over the next two years and built to an affordable and energy efficient model. They will be rented to families on the council’s housing list.
A row of existing shops and five flats in Egmanton Road will be demolished as part of the redevelopment and a new single-storey parade of retail outlets with a convenience store, café and takeaway built to replace them.
There will also be a community orchard planted and a new traffic-calmed through road connecting Thorpe Road and Egmanton Road, which will allow for improved bus connections through this part of the estate.
Part of the estate’s upgrade is already complete with a new play park and learn-to-ride cycle track opening earlier this year.
