Carbon Reduction Measures
At Mercer Building Solutions Ltd, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future. Our carbon reduction approach is a core element of our Environmental Management System, developed in line with the principles of ISO 14001:2015. We continue to strengthen these measures year‑on‑year as part of our journey to operate responsibly, transparently, and with minimal environmental impact.
Energy Efficiency
We work proactively to reduce energy consumption across all our sites, offices and operations. This includes using energy‑efficient plant, machinery and equipment, optimising fuel use, and reviewing opportunities to integrate renewable energy solutions whenever feasible. Through continual monitoring and practical improvements, we aim to significantly reduce the carbon intensity of our activities.
Carbon Monitoring & Offsetting
As part of our enhanced carbon management programme, we collect detailed organisational emissions data annually for review and analysis. We are now working with Carbon Neutral Britain, through whom we have completed our emissions reporting and requested to offset our organisational carbon footprint through UK‑based carbon reduction projects. This forms a key step in our long‑term carbon reduction strategy and supports our ambition to continually lower our operational footprint.

Waste Management
We plan our projects to minimise waste from the outset and encourage material reuse and recycling wherever possible. This approach reduces the consumption of new resources and lowers the carbon impact of our projects. Our internal target is to divert at least 98% of waste away from landfill across all developments, and we continually review and refine our site processes to support this goal.
Water Conservation
We implement water‑saving measures across our sites and offices to reduce our overall demand on water resources. This includes installing efficient fixtures, reducing process water requirements, and encouraging water‑conscious behaviours among our teams and subcontractors.
Pollution Prevention
We take proactive steps to prevent pollution of air, water and land. All our works follow strict environmental controls and comply with relevant legislation and best practice standards to minimise dust, noise, emissions and ground disturbance. During site operations, spill‑response procedures and environmental control measures are actively monitored and reviewed.
Sustainable Procurement
We promote the responsible sourcing of materials, prioritising sustainable, ethical and lower‑carbon options wherever possible. Our teams work closely with suppliers to identify products and methods that reduce carbon impact and support environmentally responsible construction practices.
Enhancing Biodiversity
Where we have influence or control, we seek to protect and enhance biodiversity on our sites. This may include habitat preservation, new planting schemes, or initiatives such as tree planting and environmental improvements delivered in partnership with clients and local communities.
Community Consideration
We strive to minimise the environmental impact of our works on surrounding communities. Effective planning and communication help reduce noise, dust and disruption, while considerate site management ensures our projects remain safe, clean and respectful of neighbours and the local environment.
Continuous Improvement
Environmental improvement is an ongoing commitment. We regularly set, review and update our environmental objectives, taking into account new legislation, emerging technologies and feedback from our teams. Staff engagement plays a central role in this process, with employees encouraged to share ideas and innovations to support our carbon reduction goals.
Communication & Training
We provide regular environmental training for employees and subcontractors, ensuring everyone understands their environmental responsibilities and the part they play in reducing carbon emissions. Clear communication and ongoing awareness initiatives help embed sustainability across every level of the business.
