Social Value
Mercer Building Solutions are dedicated to creating positive social value through our projects and operations. As well as building high quality homes, we want to help local communities thrive. Here are the key initiatives we have implemented to maximise our social impact.
Community Engagement
We will work closely with our clients and partners to help identify opportunities for community engagement and tangible support initiatives.
Local Employment
We prioritise hiring local talent and supporting local businesses. This helps to boost the local economy and create job opportunities within the community.
Community Projects
We actively participate in and support community projects, such as local infrastructure improvements, educational programmes, and community events.
Education and Training
We work closely with schools and colleges to inspire future career choices. Director, Katy Mercer, is part of the West Nottinghamshire College’s Construction Advisory Panel.
Diversity and Inclusion
- Inclusive Workforce
We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. We believe that diversity brings different perspectives and ideas, which enhances our ability to innovate and serve our clients effectively.
- Equal Opportunities
We ensure equal opportunities for all employees, regardless of their background, and promote a culture of respect and inclusion.
Economic Impact
- Supporting Local Suppliers
Typically, at least 70% of our suppliers and subcontractors on any one project are based within a 35-mile radius of the site and the majority of these are SMEs and sole traders. We always ensure that our supply chain are paid on time. - Fair Pay
We are committed to paying fair wages to all our employees and everyone is paid above the Living Wage.
Charitable Contributions
We support various charitable organisations and initiatives through donations and volunteer work. Our employees are encouraged to participate in charitable activities and give back to the community.
Case Study: Bellamy Road, Mansfield
This live scheme in Mansfield is seeing us construct 22 homes and 3 shop units for Mansfield District Council. We are keen to really embed ourselves within the community and maximise project spend. To date, we have:
- Placed over £4m worth of orders with 20 SMEs, 74% of these are based within 30 miles of the site.
- Donated £1700 worth of food items to the FOOD Club, and helped serve customers in the Community Shop.
- Provided over £4500 of labour and resource to support the Tenants Association with the rejuvenation of their Community Allotment after they received funding from Lindhurst Windfarm to purchase materials.
- Funded coach travel for the resident’s annual seaside trip.
- Joined Vision West Nottinghamshire College’s Construction Advisory Panel with the view to supporting T-Level students with work experience placements.
